چکیده
The effect of Z2 magnetic monopoles and vortices on the finite temperature deconfinement phase transition in the fundamental-adjoint Villain form of SU(2) lattice gauge theory has been investigated. A complete suppression of the Z2 monopoles has been shown to lead to an action for the theory which is self-dual under the exchange of the fundamental and adjoint couplings. By further suppressing the Z2 vortices the theory has been reduced to the usual Wilson action but with a modified coupling. The universality of the SU(2) deconfinement phase transition with the 3-dimensional Ising model should therefore remain intact in the entire plane of the fundamental-adjoint couplings in the continuum limit. Generalizations of these arguments to the SU(N) theory have been outlined. (R. V. Gavai and Manu Mathur, SNBNCBS, Calcutta)

In type II string theories, intersecting brane constructions were proposed that contain braneantibrane pairs suspended between 5-branes. Various models with distinct physics were identified: parallel brane-antibrane pairs, adjacent pairs, non-adjacent pairs, and ”Borromean” configurations which break all supersymmetry even though any pair of branes preserves some supersymmetry. Some of the bran...

Evasion of the decade-long “Grossman bound” was shown to be possible in presence of flavor dependent new physics interactions, since these can enhance the lifetime differences in neutral B meson systems over their standard model values. The interplay between the lower bound on the branching ratio of B → Kμ+μ− and the upper bound on that of Bs → μ+μ− was used to point out the tension between the...

The chiral anomaly relation was shown non-perturbatively to remain the same at finite density. A new simpler lattice Dirac operator for nonzero density was proposed and shown to have desirable properties. Smooth behaviour was predicted for certain observables at current RHIC and future LHC energies, any deviations from which signal the presence of a nearby critical point. A better method define...

Establishing the order of the deconfinement phase transition for the SU(4) lattice gauge theory at finite temperature is important for understanding of the physics of the phase transition to quark-gluon plasma. Employing a modified action to avoid spurious transitions, the theory was simulated on lattices of different sizes. A first order deconfinement transition with large latent heat was esta...

The formalism for analyzing the collective neutrino oscillations for nonspherical sources, like coalescing neutron stars, was developed. The nature of the apparent singularity in the renormalization group evolution of neutrino Dirac phase at θ13 = 0 was clarified. Renormalization group evolution of neutrino masses and mixing was calculated in the Type-III seesaw mechanism, including threshold e...
